Think preparing for pregnancy starts at two lines?
The most important months for your baby's health are the ones before the test, not after it. The egg matures over weeks, sperm form over about three months, and the neural tube often closes before you even see two lines. That window cannot be reopened later.

Most couples only hear about preparation at two lines, once the most important window is already closing. That isn't the full answer, and that's what's inside — for you and your partner.
This is for you if:
- ✓ You're planning a baby and want to give it the best start that's in your hands
- ✓ You've recently come off contraception and feel your body needs a reset
- ✓ You have PCOS, insulin resistance or a thyroid issue and know it affects fertility
- ✓ You want to understand what preparing really means, beyond taking folic acid
The most important window starts before conception
The first fact that changes everything: the body builds the egg and the sperm from what it gets over the weeks they mature. Full stores of folate, iron, iodine and good fats mean cells maturing in plenty. Empty stores mean cells maturing in deficit.
The second fact matters just as much: this is a project for two. Sperm carry half the baby's genes, and the male factor accounts for roughly half of the trouble couples have conceiving. The good news is that the cycle of sperm formation runs about three months, so changes made now have time to work for both of you.
This guide won't promise you'll conceive — that would be dishonest. It shows the part you genuinely have influence over: how to build a reserve of health in both of you for the baby to grow on, and where the line is at which you see a doctor.
What's inside
No magic and no scare tactics. Specifics you can take into your preparation on purpose, instead of guessing at the pharmacy shelf.
Why the most important window opens before the test, not after, and what cannot be reopened later.
Four sentences about pregnancy you hear everywhere that genuinely cost you, including the myth “you take folic acid and that's it”.
One blood marker that tells you whether your folate is actually working, and which standard care rarely orders.
Five things the two of you can do this week, with no tests and no protocol.

Who's behind this
Konrad Kowalik, functional naturopathy consultant
I help couples build health before conception, based on real food and testing rather than fashion, and I mark the line where preparation ends and the care of a doctor and midwife begins. I work with families in Poland and the UK, in Polish and English.
This material is educational and concerns building health before pregnancy, not managing one. It does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis or a recommendation of treatment. Konrad Kowalik is a functional naturopathy consultant, not a doctor. From conception onward your pregnancy is led by a midwife and doctor, and you confirm every supplement and dose with them. Do not stop any regular medication on your own.
